This reminded me of my mobile intenet usage circa 1998.

iDon’t TV Commcercial – Android coming to Verizon
I think this will be a very powerful ad campaign for Verizon and Android. While we all know these things about the iPhone vs. the Android OS, many people do not.

Mobile Tech Addicts reviews TCPJ app for iPhone
You can find the original post here. Thanks to Edward for doing the review!
—————————————–
TCPJ stands for The Cellphone Junkie Podcast and it is the number one cellphone podcast in iTunes. Last week an app has been released with which you can experience this podcast through a separate app, instead of using iTunes and going to websites for show notes etc. Author of the podcast – Mickey – is getting 50% from sales of this app, so we decided to support him by buying and reviewing it here.
After installation the “TCPJ” app appears in the iPhone:
After starting, a splash screen with TCPJ logo appears and then the first screen is this one:
Podcasts are not downloaded but are opened with built-in media player for playback:
Note: there is an option to play in background, whereas podcast is being opened in Safari that can be “closed” (in fact it runs in background) and then you can listen (by streaming) the TCPJ podcast and do other stuff.
You can get list of episodes:
… and “Extras” button appears and it has different functions in various places of this app, for example you can open the website of the podcast:
… that opens in embedded form (but can be opened in Safari too):
… in other places “Extras” menu has these positions:
… including ability to call voice mail:
… and ability to see Twitter feed of the podcast (with use of embedded Safari control, not with use of Twitter API):
Yet in another place “Extras” menu has “view PDF” option:
… that shows in PDF form the show notes:
… you can also set TCPJ podcast logo as wallpaper:
… via a photo roll:
Conclusion: we wish there could be ability to download episodes for off-line listening, but if you have unlimited flat rate mobile data, then you will not notice the difference and this app brings some additional features that allow you for direct access to TCPJ podcast. Anyway: if you like this podcast, then feel free to buy this app, to support it!
Get it here (price: $1.99):
TCPJ Unlocked Show #033
The Fall CTIA 2009 conference was full of great vendors showing off their products and services. During the show, we got a chance to chat with many of them, and some were gracious enough to grant an interview. This show showcases some great phones such as the HTC Hero, a unique service from Zer01, innovative software from TomTom, and 6 others.

Highlights from AT&T CTO John Donovan’s Keynote at CTIA
At the Day 2 Keynote of CTIA last week in San Diego, CTO John Donovan of AT&T went through a lot of what their new networks are going to look like. Over the course of his presentation, he gave the audience a lot of very interesting facts that I was able to Tweet along the way. If you missed it, here are the highlights:

- Wireless data growth has been 5000% in the last 12 months in the US
- 8.3 million iPhone subscribers activated in the last 12 months on AT&T
- AT&T invested more than any other company in the last 2 years to enhance its networks – $38 Billion
- AT&T putting a lot of capital into HSPA. “Still a lot of juice left in the HSPA network
- AT&T 850 MHZ upgrades nearly 90% complete

- Music consumption is changing. Sales are at the lowest level in nearly a decade. More people are listening online ie Pandora
- AT&T calls feature phones “QMD’s” – Quick messaging devices
- AT&T realizes the criticism of their network, and is working hard to change the perception. They however do not plan their network based on blogs.
- AT&T will begin testing LTE in 2010, and deployment in 2011. The 700mhz spectrum will cover 100% of top 200 markets, 87% of US
