Qwest and Verizon reach agreement

Posted by mickeypapillon on May 5, 2008

Found this agreement between Qwest and Verizon very interesting.  This is the email that came out from CEO Ed Mueller of Qwest

Subject: Qwest and Verizon Wireless Reach Agreement

I’m pleased to share with you that Qwest and Verizon Wireless have entered into a 5-year contract that will enable Qwest to offer Verizon Wireless’ national voice and data services to our consumer, business and government customers. We expect to begin marketing and selling wireless services under the Verizon Wireless brand beginning this summer.

This announcement represents a major milestone for Qwest as we continue to execute on our strategies for success. Verizon Wireless is an ideal partner to help us advance our goal of delivering simple, integrated solutions for customers. And, access to Verizon Wireless’ data offerings supports our strategy of expanding broadband at home, work and on the go. Moreover, I believe this deal will complement our model for efficiency and productivity and exemplifies our strategy of balancing investment and return for Qwest and our shareholders.

The structure of this agreement will provide advantages over our current wireless arrangement, both in terms of economics and our ability to give customers what they want–state-of-the-art handsets and services. In the meantime, the new relationship with Verizon Wireless will have no immediate effect on our current Qwest Wireless customers and the Sprint agreement, which expires in early 2009. We will continue to support our current Qwest Wireless offerings and expect to be able to offer Qwest customers the option to switch to Verizon Wireless later this year. We will share more about the plans and timelines as they become available.
