Here is a video of the launch sequence that happened on June 29th for the launch of the iPhone at Biltmore Fashion Park.
More iphone play
Just stopped by the ATT store in my area to do some additional testing on the iPhone. Again I had issues with the Google maps program. The issue is that when you are scrolling around on the screen on the satellite view, the program crashes and it dumps you back to the home screen.
Also, what is the deal with the accelerometer? With both the units last night and the one today, it seems very tempermental. I would say it rotates only 60 to 70 percent of the time when you want it to. Very odd…
On a side note, the store I was just at informed me that they were completely sold out of both their 4 and 8 GB models.
This will definitley make for some interesting talk on the next Cell Phone Junkie show.
Initial iPhone thoughts after 40 minutes of time at the store
So i headed out to the Apple store at 5:oo tonight and spent the 6:00-6:30 hour watching the people stream in. More photos and video about that in another post. Then I went home and came back tonight about 3 hours later. There was no line and I could spend some time using the phone and seeing what it could do. After 40 minutes with it, I have a few comments.
1. The device is small, sleek, sexy and really is something that a lot of people will envy.
2. The music player seems really good, and I hope that people like it as much as I did.
3. Safari-Lots of problems for me. It crashed 2 times when visiting various sites, one being The Cell Phone Junkie!
4. Google Maps-Problems as well. The program crashed and forced me to do a reset or I couldn’t get back into anything else.
5. Movies-I don’t know if it was the unit I had, but the Italian Job clip and the one of the music video never played. It would just bring up a black screen that stated the 1 second video wasn’t able to be played.
6. The keyboard is very different for QWERTY users. I was able to type quite well with the tip of my finger, but with thumbs, it was near impossible.
Just some initial thoughts after a few minutes with it. Unless I can figure out why I was having so many issues, I don’t think it is for me at this point. I will almost definitely go back to the Apple store this weekend to do some additional playing. Well, I’m in my car typing this waiting to pick my wife up at the airport, and just got the call. Time to post this and go get her. Hope everyone that wanted an iPhone today was able to get one!
1st in line to get the iPhone!

You’ll note above that I am the 1st in line at my local AT&T store. OK, so I just stood in front of the door, took the photo and left, but I was 1st in line for a minute or so. There is no chance that I will be standing in line tomorrow all day, but I will be visiting the Biltmore Fashion Park Apple store here in Phoenix around 5:30 to watch the rush of people inside. If you are in the neighborhood, give me a call at 602-903-4116 and we can meet up!
So what do we have here?
I walked back to my desk this afternoon and discovered this package sitting there. Any guesses as to what is inside? I’ll give you a hint, it is from Motorola, and it’s addressed to The Cell Phone Junkie.

TCPJ will be back soon!
Well, we got all moved in this weekend and are working on unpacking our sea of cardboard boxes. Just a quick note that The Cell Phone Junkie will be returning very soon. Look for a show mid-week!
We’re home owners!
After a month of Escrow, Courtney and I finally closed today! We spend the evening moving some small items in, and of course the celebratory champagne in the house with no furniture. It is going to be a busy weekend moving everything in, but we have a lot of friends and family helping us out.
