Biking the Urban Trail in Flagstaff
Courtney and I went up to Flagstaff yesterday to spend some time out of the heat. When we left Phoenix yesterday afternoon, it was 104 already. When we arrived in Flag, it was a cool 79! It’s amazing what getting up to 7000 feet will do! Anyway, we brought our bikes and went on a ride this morning on the Flagstaff Urban Trail System. As you can see from the picture below, it is beautiful! I love the smell of pine, so this was fantastic!

Wi-Fi issues
I twittered this earlier today, but I thought it could use a quick blog post as well. I had been having issues with my Netgear 802.11G router over the past week and couldn’t figure it out. The router was working fine when you were hard wired into it, but once you went wireless, it was very flakey. Speeds would be decent, but every 5 minutes or so, the laptop or PDA I was using were losing the connection. I reset the router, installed new firmware, and even tried setting up a separate wireless access point and it worked fine. I was convinced that I had a faulty wireless radio in the unit, but the strange thing was it had been working fun up until this week.
In a desperate attempt to save my sanity before throwing it out the window, I called Netgear customer support. I spoke with someone who was very helpful and walked me through some troubleshooting steps. She asked me the usual questions about other devices that may have come into the area recently, and I couldn’t think of any. Then she asked about other wireless routers. I thought back about it and noticed that there was indeed a new router in my neighborhood. She asked me to change the channel of the router and see how it funtioned from there.
Guess what, it worked! I couldn’t believe that such a small change could make such a difference! I loaded up 2 TV streaming services and 2 internet radio streaming services on 4 devices and let it run for 2 hours last night. Guess what, no drop outs!
A great thanks to Netgear for thier help in what was really a simple issue. It was great to have someone out there that could help so quickly and readily.
Motorola steps up again!
I received an email yesterday from Motorola and had another call with my contact today. I have to give it to them, Motorola really is a classy company. In my conversation with him today, I explained my situation to him and that I had given up the Q and moved on to the Treo, and he completely understood my reasoning.
The thing that excited me about the conversation was that I am hopefully going to be able to continue helping them in the future! I don’t have too many details at this point, but possibly the chance to review some new products in the future! Anyway, I thought it was very big of them to offer such a fun opportunity!
I will of course post any additional information when possible.
A week later with the Treo 700wx
After a week with my Treo 700wx, I have learned a lot of things about it and my usage. First of all, I know that the touch screen is a really nice component to have. I never realized how much I missed it using the Q! Also, I realized how stable Windows Mobile 5 can be. When I was using the Q, I had to reset the device once per day. So far, I have only had to do so once, and that was because of some sort of program error that I have yet to see since the reset.
There are still a few things that I need to figure out and learn how to do efficiently, but overall, i am happy so far with my decision.
The Treo is working well!
Welcome the Palm Treo 700wx
After months of frustration and 6 Motorola Q phones later, I made the switch and am now using the Palm Treo 700wx. I’ve only had it now for about 6 hours and haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but it seems to be great so far! I have noticed that it is very snappy and the overall experience is much better than the Q. I’m going to give more of my impressions of the phone after I have had time to use it and can really say I know what I am working with.
On a side note, I have to give credit to Verizon on this one. I have had so many issues with the Q’s that I have used over the past few months, that I never thought I would get out of my problems. Well, I was working with one of the retail managers named Patrick today and he was absolutely fantastic. He treated me like I was the only customer he had, and I honestly can tell you I have never had better service. He sat down with me and actually understood my issue, and told me that it was unacceptable for his company to have treated me the way they did. After just 5 minutes, he said, what can I do to make it right. He offered me a new Q (not refurbished) and when I hesitated, he instantly pulled out the 700p, 700wx, vx6700 and Blackberry 8703 for me to choose from. I told him I didn’t want a “handout” from him, so we settled on a trade. I gave him my Q and in return, he took the FULL retail price off of the 700wx. Completely unexpected and impressed.
I feel that Motorola made a great attempt to keep my business, and I value the contact I had with them on my issues. I am planning on still working with them if they would like my help/input, but it was too little, too late.
I’m looking forward to some time with my new device, learning what it means to get back into the Pocket PC version of Windows Mobile after being a smartphone user for 10 months.

The future of Mobile Tech
Dave Ciccone over at Mobility Today posted this video and I think it is awesome! I can honestly not wait until we get to this point. I’m sure it won’t be too long!
Easter Lunch in San Diego’s Little Italy
We had a great trip over the weekend to San Diego and it was capped off by a great lunch down in little Italy. We ate at a place called Cafe Zucchero, and all had great Italian food! It looks like I wasn’t the only person to have a non traditional Easter meal, check out Steve’s post as well!

Pacific Beach
We went over to Pacific Beach yesterday and went out on Crystal Pier. Here is a shot looking back at San Diego from the end of the pier.
