Quality Problems with TCPJ show

If you are a consistent listner to The Cell Phone Junkie Podcast, you will have no doubt noticed that the audio quality has dropped dramitically over the past 5 or so episodes.  I wanted to come out and say that I have been having problems with my computer and headset, and I am working on getting it fixed.

What I am planning on doing is upgrading my setup to a professional one and begin to incorporate some higher end components to resolve the degredation that I’ve been experiencing.

Thanks to everyone that is hanging in there and rest assured that TCPJ will get back up to the very best quality, very soon!  Hey, at the very least it’s an excuse to buy some new toys!

Vistas from the top of Winter Park, Colorado

This past Monday, Courtney and I headed up to Winter Park to do some skiiing.  Mid-afternoon, I decided to head up to the top of the mountain (just above 12,000 feet) and pulled out my phone to take this video.  The quality isn’t the best, but you definitely get the idea!

And here is the still photo view

Flying over the rockies!

Here is a video I took on my flight last weekend.  We were on our decent into Denver and coming across the rockies.

It all makes sense now!-The Cingular/AT&T merger explained

I fed the audio for this clip into show #35 of The Cell Phone Junkie, but I wanted to put it on this site as well.  I find this VERY humorous!

I’m Back!

So, we got back from our vacation to Colorado and are back in Phoenix.  Over the next few days I will have to spend time getting my life back in order, but am excited to get back at it!

Look for another The Cell Phone Junkie podcast this coming weekend!

Feeling a little out of touch

So I’m feeling a little out of touch this weekend.  I have been in Colorado for the last 3 days and having a great time.  However, we have been very busy with a lot of activities, and so I haven’t really felt like I have been keeping up with my news, podcasts and such.

I did however want to share what I thought was a great photo that showed off my day yesterday.  We traveled out to Eastern Colorado and along the way drove through some pretty messy conditions.  Coming up from Arizona, this was pretty neat to see, and fun at the same time!  Enjoy!

The new configuration for TCPJ

I recently purchased a Plantronics DSP 550 headset for TCPJ podcast.  Because this headset is the USB type, I had to change the configuration of how I record the shows.  Show #33 will be the first show where I use this new configuration, so hopefully it will turn out well.

Here is what I had to do.  Using the equipment that I have, 2 computers are needed for my setup.  1 is a HP Pavilion desktop and the other is an IBM Thinkpad laptop.  The USB headset is plugged into my Pavilion computer which is connected to my Skype account.  Because my sound card on the Pavilion can’t record the audio that is coming in from my headset and Skype without causing me to hear myself over the Skype connection (a half second delay that is very annoying and distracting) I have to use the second computer.  I set up a second Skype account, log in to that one on the laptop, and start a conference call between the 2 of them.  Next, I conference in the other members of the podcast so we are all on one single audio stream.  Now, I take the line out on the laptop (which has the audio of all the podcast hosts) and route it back via a 3.5mm cable to the line in on my desktop.  Then, my desktop has the Audacity software on it that records the entire show.  Easy as that!  Ok, well it doesn’t sound all that easy, but after some research and playing, this is really the best way that I can figure out to do this!

If for some reason, you can think of a different, or better way with Windows XP and a USB headset to do this, please let me know!

What a game tonight!

I just finished watching the Patriots vs. Chargers game this afternoon and what a finish!  The game came down to a missed field goal by the Chargers and the Patriots are now off to play Indianapolis in the AFC Championship game.

Congrats to the Patriots and all thier fans!

I think Steve is a Cell Phone Junkie!

One of the co-hosts and my friend Steve from Mobility Today posted this story on his website yesterday.  Thanks for the post about my site Steve, and thanks for being a Call Phone Junkie as well!  Also make sure to check out his full site Steve Trotto.com
